For me; Gary Gillot, Inventor, Sportsman, the Questioner, always Searching for answers.

Gary was more than kind, loving and generous, he was also a thinking man. His early interest in chess as a teenager beating the South African junior champion was always behind his thinking. It gave him the strategy in becoming a successful business man. His thinking gave him the creative skills as a renowned and highly respected typographer. As an inventor and designer of many products in the world of commercial art and marketing where perhaps he was not given the full recognition he deserved. This thinking and creativity was evident in his successful and highly regarded international judo reputation as a 6th Dan exponent where he saw the beauty and skill and strategy as paramount.
His thinking, his wisdom and analytical mind lead him to often be at odds within his community as he unapologetically denounced racism, hypocrisy and the injustices we see today. His wisdom and thoughts were widely respected among the distant relatives around the globe, who whenever visiting England always asked, ‘Can we visit uncle Gary?’
The Godfather was his favourite film. It was their devotion to the family with which he held such empathy. He said he would not hesitate to kill for his family. The family came before anything else, including himself. I know that Denise, Gray, Jon and Jenny would concur with that sentiment.
For me, I shall miss him terribly, those frequent political chats we engaged in, sometimes quite heatedly but always respecting each other’s views, particularly as we were so often on the same page, so refreshing. I would not be writing this eulogy were it not for the fact that he found me a job in England days before I was due to leave the country. So my life was changed as I set out on a path of social change and his influence contributed to the overturning of much of the beliefs I held.
Gary is the last of his generation and the end of an era.
I can never thank him enough, he will be my eternal hero.
